I’m not sure why, but I have always loved a polished outfit for the office.  Salivating over gray dress pants and sensible black heels, in graduate school I envied the women who boarded the bus for downtown each morning and dreamed they were off to fabulous jobs in corner offices in tall buildings.

While I had no place to wear them, I told my parents in December of 2009 that for Christmas, I wanted bright orange wool pants from Santa.  Details are unnecessary as to where said pants would be ordered, but I’m sure you can guess which designer it was.  Though I had no where to wear them, I knew I had to have them.

Badly.

Well, Santa delivered.  And while the pants were a bit before their time both in style (bright colors weren’t quite in yet) and in timing (I didn’t have anywhere to wear them), I was elated to own them.

Trouble is, bright orange will only blend with a few colors and even then, not all of the available options will work.  Muted with a darker color, I feel like orange pants can make a statement without being too garish.  Let’s save the hassle and say the entire outfit is from J. Crew spanning 2009-2012.
